Brief Synopsis:
Marshal Gene Autry aids Pat Buttram in exposing the murderer in a gold dust robbery. Gene and Pat search for the killer after an innocent man is falsely accused.

Detailed Synopsis:
Old maid Miss Lucy vows to leave Boulder Bluff for good because she is fed up with the fighting between her nephew, Tom, and his stepfather, George Colby. As stagecoach driver and sheriff, Pat Buttram, drives her off, the horses run away. When Gene Autry tries to stop them, coincidentally at a spot where outlaw Ace Judkins and his henchmen are in hiding, Pat mistakes Gene for a bandit. Ace pretends he is a U.S. Marshal, but later at Pat’s office, Gene recognizes Ace’s face on a reward poster, just as Mitch Lawson rides up with the news that a wagonload of gold has been stolen and George Colby killed. All evidence points to Tom as the killer. Gene catches Tom and arrests him. Mitch learns that Miss Lucy has persuaded Gene to try to establish Tom’s innocence, so he attempts to ambush him. Gene then realizes Mitch is part of the gang. During a fight, Gene tells Mitch that he is after the gold and offers Mitch a choice of either being turned over to the law or leading Gene to the gold. Miss Lucy, tipped off by Gene, rides to inform Pat, and Gene leaves with Mitch for Ace’s hideout. Gene, unseen by Mitch, drops reward posters along the road, so that Pat can follow. At the hideout, Ace and his men are preparing to double-cross Mitch and leave with the gold. They start a fight, killing Mitch, but Gene shoots at them until Pat arrives in the nick of time with his posse. The bandits are rounded up, and Tom’s innocence is proved.
