Brief Synopsis:
Gene learns that a convicted embezzler has escaped from jail. The thief accuses his partner of double crossing him, and Gene intervenes to see that justice is done.

Detailed Synopsis:
Neil Pierson, partner in a banking and loan firm, absconds with funds, gets caught, and sent up for a time. When he later escapes from the penitentiary, Gene Autry and Sheriff Henry Blake believe he will head to his partner Curt Wayne’s ranch, since Wayne had stood by him. Gene sets a trap, but Pierson knocks out the deputy and takes his horse. When they learn that Pierson has eluded them, Gene and Pat Buttram take up the trail, but lose him when Champion throws a shoe. Later, Gene tracks Pierson to town. While Gene and Sheriff Blake throw out a dragnet, the sheriff's wife Emily sends Pat to find Gene. Pierson, now desperate, knocks out Pat, steals his clothes, and takes refuge in a closet in the warehouse, where Wayne comes upon him while looking for a small table. Pierson accuses Wayne of double-dealing and demands half the money. After promising to help Pierson, Wayne tells the sheriff where he is. Realizing he has been betrayed, Pierson shoots and wounds Wayne, and when Gene captures him, starts shouting accusations. Wayne shoots his ex-partner and tries to escape, but Gene prevents him, causing a terrific fight. Wayne is finally brought to justice and Emily and the schoolmistress put on a school social.
