Autry National Center
Summer Camp

June 25th through
August 10th

Summer Camp at the Autry National Center this year has a Gene Autry theme to celebrate his Centennial. Campers will learn about cowboys and cowgirls, film making, live radio theater, comic books, and horses. Sign up now for all the summer fun!

What: Autry National Center Summer Camp

Where: The Autry National Center's Museum of the American West

When: Weekly Session beginning June 25th and Ending August 10th

Who: Children ages 5 to 6; 7 to 9; and 10 to 12

Autry National Center Summer Camp

Monday, June 25 – Friday, June 29
Mornings, 9:00am–Noon
Cowboys and Cowgirls, Ages 7–9

Explore cowboy and cowgirl life from the early days of the vaqueros, the first cowboys, all the way up to Gene Autry, the singing cowboy, and beyond. Learn about the clothes they wore, the food they ate, and the songs they sang. A real-life cowgirl will show you how to swing a lasso. 

Five Half-days: $155 / $125 for members 
Monday, June 25 – Friday, June 29 and
Monday, July 2 – Friday, July 6
Afternoons, 1:00–4:00pm
Film Camp, Ages 10–12

If you love movies, then we have the camp for you! Scout locations, cast roles, act in and film scenes, and then edit your clips into a Western movie. We will have a special world premiere on the last day of class. 

Ten Half-days: $230 / $200 for members

Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 13
Afternoons, 1:00–4:00pm
Cowboys and Cowgirls, Ages 5–6

What do cowboys and cowgirls wear? What do they eat? What do they ride? What songs do they sing? Find out this week as you become cowboys and cowgirls. Meet a real-life cowgirl who will show you how to swing a lasso.

Five Half-days: $155 / $125 for members

Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20
Mornings, 9:00am–Noon
Radio Theater, Ages 10–12

Step back to a time before video games and TVs. Every night, people used to gather around the radio to listen to their favorite program. Cast voices, create sound effects, and produce your own radio show.

Monday, July 23 –Friday, July 27 and
Monday, July 30 – Friday, August 3
Mornings, 9:00am–Noon
Comic Books, Ages 7–9

Did you know that Gene Autry had his own comic book series featuring himself and his horse Champion? You'll get a chance to look at some of these collectibles while you gather ideas as a class to create an original comic book story and illustrations.

Horses, Ages 5–6

Giddee-yup! Learn when horses came to West and how different people used them. Get your picture taken on top of a Champion look-alike horse in our galleries, and go for a pony ride on the last day of class.

Monday, August 6 – Friday, August 10
Afternoons, 1:00–4:00pm
Horses, Ages 7–9

How did horses get to America? How did they change life for the the people living here? What jobs do they do for people? Learn about tack, such as saddles and bridles, and go for a real pony ride.

Five half-days: $155/$125 for members
